Mining The Mining division includes operations of Southern Copper Corporation (SCC), which includes Minera Mexico and southern Peru, as well as American Smelting and Refining Company (Asarco) in the U.S. SCC: SCC operates in Mexico and Peru, with field explorations in Chile. The mining operations in Peru comprise two open pit mines (Toquepala and Cuajone) and one metallurgical complex (Ilo). The mining operations in Mexico consist of two open pit copper mines (La Caridad and Cananea), various underground silver and zinc mines, and a metallurgical complex (also at La Caridad). Asarco: Asarco is a copper producer in the U.S. Asarco's primary operations include three open pit copper mines in Arizona (Mission, Ray, and Silver Bell); one copper smelter in Hayden, Arizona; and one copper smelter and precious metals plant in Amarillo, Texas. Transportation The Transportation division includes three railroad companies, including Grupo Ferroviario Mexicano-Ferrocarril Mexicano (GFM-Ferromex), Ferrosur, and Intermodal Mexico. Ferromex: Ferromex is a railroad operator in Mexico. The company provides general railroad freight and intermodal services, and other auxiliary services that include passenger transport, intra-terminal pulling, and automotive terminal services. Ferromex has the major coverage on the Mexican railroad system, with 7,108.6 kilometers of main track and 1,001.9 kilometers of secondary track, and also operates a fleet with 582 locomotives and 12,419 cars of different types, some of which are owned by Ferromex and others are leased from third parties. Ferrosur: The principal activity of Ferrosur is railroad freight and auxiliary services, as well as all activities that directly support and are related to this corporate purpose. Ferrosur covers southeast Mexico through its 1,813 kilometers of track. Intermodal Mexico: Intermodal Mexico is a related business that provides door-to-door transport and logistics services to its customers. Intermodal Mexico operates in 40 major cities and in 12 states in Mexico. The company offers terminal services, including the loading and unloading of goods and overland transportation. Infrastructure The Infrastructure division comprises three companies: Mexico Compañia Constructora (MCC), Perforadora Mexico (PEMSA), and Consutec. The principal activities of MCC and Consutec are engineering and construction services for large scale projects at the private and public levels. MCC participates in infrastructure projects that involve, according to the contract conditions, construction services, project management, engineering, procurement, startup, maintenance, and mine exploration. The principal areas of specialization for the development of engineering projects are feasibility studies; conceptual design; basic engineering; detailed engineering; procurement; oversight; project management; and preparation of bids for public tenders.
