Transport Balfour Beatty is a 20% shareholder in the Metronet consortium which is a 30 year PPP project responsible for upgrading and maintaining two thirds of London Underground’s infrastructure – its trains, stations, signalling, track, tunnels and bridges. Balfour Beatty is an investor in the Sunderland street lighting PFI project, maintaining the total stock of 45,000 street lights and 13,500 illuminated highway signs and other fixed equipment in the city. Strategic Alliances Skanska AB has a 40% stake along with its partners, Balfour Beatty (40%), Atkins (10%) and Egis (10%), which are formally been appointed preferred bidder for the development of the M25 highway around London. As part of the consortium, Skanska Infrastructure Development would be responsible for the development and management of the project together with its three partners for a period of 30 years. The design and construction would be undertaken by Skanska UK and Balfour Beatty in a 50/50 joint venture. The company and Alstom SA have formed a joint venture company, Signalling Solutions Limited. The two companies hold a 50% stake. VINCI Construction Grands Projets Sdn Bhd and Vinci Plc has signed an agreement with Balfour Beatty plc to form a 50/50 joint venture. The joint venture is to bid on tenders issued as part of the U.K's programme to build nuclear power plants.
