Africa Oil Corp. operates as a Canadian oil and gas exploration company with producing and development assets in deep-water offshore Nigeria, and development assets in Kenya. The company has a portfolio of exploration assets in Guyana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa and in the Senegal Guinea Bissau Joint Development Zone. It holds its interests through direct ownership interests in concessions and through its shareholdings in investee companies, including Prime Oil & Gas B.V., Africa Energy Corp., Eco (Atlantic) Oil & Gas Ltd. and Impact Oil and Gas Ltd. The company explores multiple onshore exploration blocks in various under-explored geological settings in East Africa and has made various oil discoveries in the South Lokichar Basin (Blocks 10BB and 13T) located in the Tertiary Rift trend in Kenya. Appraisal activities are ongoing with the intention of sanctioning development of the oil fields in the South Lokichar Basin. In addition, the company has invested into equity interests in junior exploration companies that have active drilling programs in various offshore assets in Africa and South America. History The company was incorporated in 1993 under the Business Corporations Act (British Columbia) S.B.C. 2002 c.57, as amended. It was formerly known as Canmex Minerals Company and changed its name to Africa Oil Corp. in 2007.
