About Chartwell Retirement Residences

Chartwell Seniors Housing Real Estate Investment Trust operates as an open-ended trust that engages in the ownership, development, management, and operation of seniors housing facilities. Its portfolio of senior housing facilities ranges from independent living facilities, through retirement homes to long-term care facilities. The Company has acquired Chartwell Care Corporation (CCC) and Alert Care Corporation (Alert) CCC CCC manages 20 income-producing seniors housing facilities for third parties, of which three were IL Facilities, 12 were Retirement Homes and five were LTC Facilities. The seniors housing facilities formerly managed by CCC are located in Ontario and British Columbia. CCC also managed the development of 21 seniors housing facilities for clients. All of these are located in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec and Saskatchewan. CCC clients included such established developers and owners as the Tridel Group of Companies, Sifton Properties Limited and Villabar Properties Inc. Alert Alert, a corporation amalgamated under the laws of Ontario, entered the Light Care Retirement Home business in 1985 with three Retirement Homes. From that time, Alert concentrated on acquiring and constructing Retirement Homes in suburban centres and towns throughout Ontario. Prior to the closing of the Offering, Alert operated 31 income -producing Retirement Homes with 2,111 suites and was constructing or developing an additional 15 Retirement Homes representing 1,807 suites under construction or in various stages of development. History Chartwell Seniors Housing Real Estate Investment Trust was formed in 2003.
