Killam Properties Inc. engages in the ownership and operation of apartments and manufactured home communities (MHCs). As of December 31, 2008, the company owned and operated 118 apartments and 55 MHCs with a balanced portfolio of 18,153 units, including 8,924 apartment units and 9,229 MHC units. Apartments The company’s 118 apartment properties held as of December 31, 2008, are a combination of low-rise and high-rise buildings, with some townhouse complexes, principally located in the six urban centers in Atlantic Canada. Manufactured Home Communities The company also acquires and manages MHCs, also known as land lease communities or trailer parks, throughout Canada. It owns the land and infrastructure supporting each community, including utility connections, streets, lighting, driveways, common area amenities and other capital improvements, and leases the lot to the tenant, who owns their own home and pays the company monthly lot rent. Killam's MHC portfolio includes a total of 265 acres of land available for future expansion or potential sub-division and sale to third parties.
