Asia Cement Corporation manufactures and sells cement, clinker, cement-related products and ready-mixed concrete (RMC). Products The company’s products could be classified into four principal categories, such as clinker, cement products, RMC and blastfurnace slag powder. The company also manufactures and sells stainless steel. The company markets its cement and clinker products under the ‘Skyscraper’ brand name in the domestic Taiwan and PRC markets and overseas markets, including Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and the United States. The company sells RMC products in the Taiwan market through the subsidiary Ya Tung Ready-Mixed Concrete Co. Ltd. & Ya Sing Ready-Mixed Concrete Co. Clinker Clinker is a semi-finished product, which could be used to produce different types of cement products by mixing in different additives during the grinding process. Majority of the clinker output that the company produces is used in its cement production, and the company sells the remainder to its customers. Cement Products The company sells three varieties of Portland cement products, consisting of ordinary Portland cement (OPC), Portland blast-furnace slag cement (PBFSC) and composite Portland cement (CPC). The company sells PBFSC and CPC in the PRC only through ACC China. These three varieties of cement products differ in the percentage of clinker used and the nature and quantity of other ingredients blended with the clinker during the grinding stage. For its PBFSC and CPC, the grinding mix includes blast-furnace slag powder, which is derived from a non-metallic byproduct of steel production. OPC: OPC is used in the construction of buildings and infrastructure, which require high strength, and for structures constructed within a short period of time, such as highways, bridges, piers and airports. It is also used in general construction projects, such as residential buildings and high-rise buildings. OPC is suitable for all applications where the special properties of other cement products are not required. PBFSC: OPC is used in the construction of buildings and infrastructure, which require high strength, and for structures constructed within a short period of time, such as highways, bridges, piers and airports. Blast-Furnace Slag Powder The company processes blast-furnace slag, a byproduct of steel production, into a powder to produce PBFSC. Majority of the blast-furnace slag powder the company produces is used in its cement production, while the remainder is sold to its customers. Other Products The company also manufactures various stainless steel products. The company primarily manufactures BA cold-rolled stainless steel coil, as well as other types of merchant stainless steel coils for various uses. Sales and Marketing The primary markets in which the company sells its cement products are Hualien and northern and central Taiwan in the case of ACC and the central and western Yangtze River Region, including Jiangxi, Hubei, Sichuan, Shanghai and Zhejiang, in the case of ACC China. Customers The company’s and ACC China’s customers mainly include government projects, infrastructure construction and civil engineering companies, ready mixed concrete producers, dealers and general distributors. In overseas markets, the company and ACC China have customers in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippine, Hong Kong, Guam, Hawaii, and the U.S. mainland. Distribution Network The company and ACC China have distribution terminals, including silos and other ancillary facilities, at different locations in Taiwan and the PRC for the storage of its cement products.
